In this guide, we are happy to explore with you our favourite beaches in the Algarve.
This is part of our desire to share with you our own and our guests experiences in visiting key locations in the Algarve.
With over a 100 beaches and depending on your preferred type of beach, The Algarve has a large variety just to suit your needs.
You can find long seemingly infinite stretches of sand, to unspoilt natural surroundings of the Ria Formosa beaches, contrasting with the breath-taking cliffs of the western Algarve, there really is something for everyone.
And the best of part of this is that the sea water and cleanliness of these beaches is excellent.
Praia Ilha Tavira or Tavira Island beach is an absolutely stunning beach with its lovely stretch of sand where one side is the Ocean and the other the tranquil Ria Formosa.
They are a variety of different cafes and restaurants some with live music.
A perfect place to enjoy wonderful purple sunsets on one side of the island.
To access Tavira Ilha, there are two places where you can board a boat that will take you to the island.
From Tavira town on the river, resulting in a longer boat ride or from Quatro Aguas, boat times vary at different seasons but work all year long.
Praia de Cacela Velha or Cacela Velha beach is one of our favourite Algarve beaches!
At low tide, we can see people picking up shells and wonders of the sea, it is quite magical!
Also, don’t miss out on having a little stroll around the adorable tiny village of cacela Velha. The village offers panoramic views of both the ria Formosa and the wide beaches.
It is also one of the best places to enjoy the sunset as the water seems to turn like silk in the light of the evening sun
This is one of the most interesting Algarve beaches to visit.
You will discover The Barril’s Beach unique features such as the rusty anchors and the quaint train ride that will take you to and from the beach should you decide not to walk.
A visit here offers you the possibility to drink or dine in the former tuna fishing village
If you are in search of rest, escape, gastronomy and Portuguese culture, Tavira is an ideal place for a holiday full of authenticity.
Very easily accessible algarve beach in Tavira and a wonderful place to relax next to the sea.
It feels very warm and safe to swim as the water is quite shallow.
It is frequented by many locals and a favourite for many local fishermen.
Another splendid location with exceptional views of the coast surrounded by beautiful pine forest.
The walk on the white sanded beach is absolutely delightful and there are many cafes and restaurants close to the beach to enjoy a tasty snack or enjoy a refreshing drink.
At a further distance from La Senhora Das Oliveiras, Praia de Marinha is one of the most impressive Algarve beaches along the coast.
We absolutely love taking a walk along the cliffs to get to the beach, and it takes us around 30 minutes.
You will see there the rocky ocean shore and have the opportunity to visit the famous Benagil Cave by hiring a ferry service or renting equipment if you would like to.
Now you have seen some our favourite Algarve beaches, all that’s left to do is come to Portugal for your next holiday.
La Senhora Das Oliveiras is located maximum an hour drive from all of these stunning locations.
